On Thursday 20th September we started a new 10 week course of Dance for fitness, funded by The British Heart Foundation. Sarah and Clair teach 6-7pm at The Brickfields Sports Centre in Plymouth, 30 minutes of dance cardio, 20 minutes of circuit training and 10 minutes of stretching and relaxation.
Heart conditions are an area for concern in Plymouth as 40% of Plymothians die from Circulatory diseases. We know that dance is a great form of exercise and its great fun too!
Dancing can bring a wide range of physical benefits, including:
Anyone can enjoy dancing regardless of their age or background, if they are disabled or non-disabled, whether or not they have danced before, and whatever their shape and size.
We have created a session where there is no excuse not to join in… Classes are only £1 to attend and the first one is free! Children are welcome and we teach different levels so the classes are accessible to anyone, whatever their level of fitness
All participants are starting to make great progress. The circuits section started with one round and now most participants can complete three sets together! The group are developing confidence to have a go at the more physically challenging exercises and embrace new sequences. Within the dance cardio routine Sarah has been able to give fewer lower intense options and recently gave higher level opportunities to the regulars whose fitness abilities are strengthening to a good pace.
Sarah and Clair have really enjoyed teaching Dance 4 Fitness. The structure of the class allows the group to get into each section fully and find their strengths. The variety keeps the participants on their toes and helps in giving more energy and motivation. It is lovely to see participants having fun while becoming more active.
