Education & Community

Participation in dance provides enjoyment and promotes fitness and general well-being. Participating in high quality dance can provide participants with a wide range of social skills and benefits not just to counter obesity but also to increase their self-esteem and confidence.

attik dance specializes in finding imaginative and varied approaches to sharing its work and its creative process, through a forward looking education programme.

Contemporary dance is an exciting physical art form that gives people the opportunity to express themselves in movement and build their fitness in a fun, sociable environment.

We have worked extensively with schools, colleges, community groups, residential centres and the public throughout the South West and we currently provide over 200 workshops in schools each year.

All our workshops offer an intensive, stimulating and inspiring experience for students and teachers including:

  • A safe and accessible warm-up
  • A creative component
  • Development of skills and technique
  • A structure for appreciation and evaluation
  • Ideas for development

Special Schools

We have an excellent record of bringing our safe and encouraging dance work into special schools, where we have developed activities with props and creative resources.

Teachers Inset

Teachers can book a twilight, half or full day session.

Sessions provide practical skills and useful lesson ideas supported by teaching notes. But don’t just take our word for it:

“Fantastic tutor, well- structured workshop giving a really good grounding to go on and teach from.”

“Lovely atmosphere, really enjoyed the day, loads of ideas.”

Cluster groups and dance enrichment

Our work with cluster and dance enrichment groups is about enhancing creativity and the shared experience between schools through imaginative projects.

When working with partnership groups, we arrange school visits for creative sessions and then a gathering at a theatre or secondary school nearby.

Here are two of our favourite projects, but we can develop a theme of your choice with you.

  • Under the Sea - Key Stage 1/2

Explore the Enchanted Space under the sea and join us in an animated adventure.

  • The Big Bang - Key Stage 2

Discover the excitement of the Big Bang theory through performance workshops including dance and science activities.

Timetables & bookings

Whether full or half-day, timetables can be arranged to suit your school or college. The only requirements are:

  • a space large enough for the group to move freely (preferably with an uncarpeted floor)
  • the presence of a teacher at all times

Of course, refreshments are always welcome!

Booking a workshop is easy. Just contact us to discuss your requirements and budget. Telephone us on 01752 252510 or email info@attik.org.uk

Training
Are you a qualified, graduate or student dancer? Do you want to develop new skills, or refresh existing ones and find support and encouragement for working with dance in education and community settings? Why not find out more about attik’s training placements?

We’ll help you develop skills in teaching and performance in schools and community settings, establishing projects, administering them and providing individual support.

All you need to do is look at our activity programme, identify your needs for development or skills refreshment and contact us to work out a programme of participation. This may involve shadowing, assisting observation or project participation.

Interattik
This is an umbrella title for a range of activity we offer in schools and the community in Cornwall, Plymouth and other parts of Devon.

We respond to requests for teaching in schools and can tailor our community activity for the more vulnerable sector of our society, building partnerships with other organisations and agencies for our work. See our activity programme for details of upcoming work.
