Attik’s education programme uses action packed performances and workshops to provide a kinesthetic approach to nurturing curiosity and bringing topics to life. We use issue based performances to address current teenage matters, provide inset to raise the standard of dance delivery by teachers and provide valuable resources so that the work can continue. Through meeting the needs of schools, more children and young people have access to high quality dance and are able to experience the richness of the arts and will be shaping their future arts provision as creators and consumers.
Attik offer high quality dance experiences in areas of least engagement to ensure that dance is accessible to all. We offer the same opportunity to every group that we work, nurturing the individual, enabling excellence at any level and sharing our skills and expertise to broaden the reach of high quality dance opportunities. Through a variety of dance experiences and progression routes, skills, knowledge and awareness develops so that people can make informed choices about what they like and how they spend their time, having the confidence to try new things.
Attik will develop a business model that is sustainable, resilient and innovative. Through training, strong partnerships, diverse income streams and good planning, projects will achieve their full potential, be longer term and stay true to Attik’s core values. Through working in partnership, sharing knowledge and best practice, each organisation is made stronger, leaner and more efficient and quality increases through shared skills, learning and expertise.
Our Key Projects
Attik 360 - Dance activities for adults with physical and learning difficulties. Thanks to funding from The Big Lottery Fund & The Clare Milne Trust, these sessions allow creativity in a safe and supported environment. Fitness and flexibility improves, confidence increases, communication skills develop and we also offer performance opportunities and progression routes for the dancers.
Time to Dance - Dance activities to improve the health and well-being of the over 50’s. We work with local groups to provide energising sessions with an emphasis on mobilising the body, improving fitness and developing flexibility.
Attik Youth Dance - A company for young and talented dancers aspiring to progress onto further dance education and to gain performance experience.
Education - We work with schools and colleges to enhance or support the curriculum. All our workshops offer an intensive, stimulating and creative experience for students and teachers.
Professional Development - We offer training and mentoring opportunities to emerging dance practitioners so they can have the opportunity to develop their skills and gain experience in this environment.
Attik Dance became a registered charity in 2003 and we are regularly funded by The Arts Council and are Key Clients of Plymouth City Council

History
Attik dance was founded in 1989 by Lois Taylor and Dougie Bruce - Two dancers who shared a passion for creativity, fun and above all dance! Since the days of shivering in Sterts open air theatre and driving round the country to perform in wacky costumes to take dance to new rural audiences Attik has constantly been evolving but always remained focused on using dance as vehicle to inspire and enable creativity and learning.
Attik Dance have worked in partnerships with hundreds of organisations and individuals to bring their ideas to life including Museums, libraries, marine biologists, shopping centres, Portuguese musicians, head teachers, poets and historians. The reason Attik engage with so many different people is that we can see their vision and know that using dance and movement we can help others to understand this sea of complex and sometimes bizarre ideas and open up the potential for engagement for learning or simply having fun.
Since being a regularly funded organisation of Arts Council England Attik have been seem performing and delivering projects in city centres, shop windows, woods, on the beach and even in aquarium tanks! Our work within education and community settings has grown year on year with the company expanding to take on dancers for performances, graduate training offers, education projects and large scale community endeavours. In 2009 to 2010 Attik delivered 320 workshops 4109 participants creating 32 opportunities for employment and volunteering.
Attik aim to continue to keep our door open, encouraging the development of a highly skilled and motivated workforce and a society willing and able to access a wide variety of creative dance experiences in the South West.
