Attik Youth Dance:

Attik Youth Dance spent Saturday 17th July dancing across Plymouth. AYD, in collaboration with film-maker, Kevin Clifford, have re-worked their performance ‘Flux’, a piece developed by Clair Beckett based on electricity.

The performers developed their ideas using three spaces across Mount Wise, Tothill Park and Efford. The weather was somewhat indecisive, but the dancers had great fun running in and out of the rain and catching amazing shots! The first group,  consisted of Faye Dan, Robin Jones and Katie Wheeler. They had the pleasure of working at Mount Wise and really incorporated their surroundings in to their piece. The dancers were extremely lucky to have permission to roam free on the site, an old MOD base, it was exciting and inspiring and great fun finding all the secret hiding places on site.

The second group, split into a solo section by Zoe Mote and a duet of Lucy Rigler and Harry Scott was based around Tothill Park. The weather held out and the performers worked beautifully within their given settings to manipulate and improvise with their material, including the risky task of performing contact work on steps!

The final dancers, Jess Bennett, Kirstie Eyres and Chelsea-Marie Gall performed in an oversized box, and developed a surreal dreamlike sequence performed under a large pylon! The group really used their imagination to create an Alice in Wonderland inspired performance.

.........and the reason for all this dancing madness .......

In September 2010,this film will be presented to the public.  In collaberation with the Plymouth University, the ICCI 360 Film Festival will be hosting a week of film entertainment at the city centre piazza from Monday 13th to Saturday 18th. The festival will present a multitude of innovative multimedia and performance work from international, national and local artists – and this is where we fit in.

Attik dance have a film screening slot, Saturday 18th September at 3.30pm. Look out for the event in Plymouth this September to see all of AYD’s fun and hard work.  This day was of course documented in photos, so have a sneaky peak!!
