What is South?
South Dance Company is an all lads dance company aged from 11 upwards. Our company allows its members to express their creative ideas through physical movement. We meet every Friday from 5 till 8, starting with an hour class where we build up our physical skills such as strength, trust in partner work and floor phrases. This then leads to 2 hours of making and creatively exploring ideas for performance. This work is led by the whole company, everyone’s ideas are taken into account and played with fully before making the decision as a company on the final work. This is fundamentally important to the South ethos. Everyone’s idea is valid and is played with.
Our mission is to get lads dancing and expressing themselves through dance and physical movement. It is very important to us that we let our members know that they as individuals are important and that their ideas are valid, no matter how big or small. We want to create a culture where it is understood that everyone’s ideas are just as important as others.
We are looking to teach in the community and local schools to engage young boys in dance performance. If you are interested in working with the company please contact Leroy.
The company rehearse in the studio at Radiant on a Friday night between 5:00 and 8:00pm,
We run the technique class between 5:00 and 6:00pm which is an open level class to lads between the ages of 15-25.
No previous experience is needed for this session – if you already have a passion for moving and you want your creative ideas to be heard, or are just interested in seeing what we do, feel free to come along and for any further questions please contact Leroy and Kaleb at:
