Attik 360 Perform in Launceston

Attik 360 Dance Company performed at the Access Theatre Platform at Launceston Town hall as part of their ‘Xmas Factor Show’.   The show’s theme was games shows and competitions on the television around Christmas time, and there is a lot of them! … We slotted in perfectly when it came to Strictly Come Dancing!

The company worked for 6 weeks to get the 10 minute piece together, and were given various tasks to create movement for the piece.  The piece was based on what it is to be in a dance team… and the personalities and egos that come with it.  The piece featured solo moments, crazy warm up rituals, and lots of clashes between personalities.   The piece was a comical take on the show – over the top and, extremely physical.

We are pleased to now have Mikey and Tom in the company who also take part in The Access Theatre company and were excited to have their acting skills in the piece. Mikey and Tom played the roles of the host, and we were excited to have some spoken text in the piece, something we have never done before as a company!

In February we begin rehearsing the piece and developing it to perform at Drakes Circus Shopping Centre on Sunday 10th February, outside of Claire’s Accessories on the lower floor. The company will perform at 11.am, 11.30 and 12pm to audiences in the shopping centre.  The idea of performing this piece in public came from the dancers themselves and we are extremely excited to be performing in front of hundreds of shoppers!

Work Placement – Sandra

I’m Sandra 24 years old and from Germany. I’m here on an Exchange project name IDA “Integration through Exchange”. Before this project I completed a 13 week English language course in Germany.

My stay here has been for three months and the time flies by.

Here in England, there is a partner school, which supports us the whole time, and they also offer excursions and fun evenings.

We live with host families and you get dinner and breakfast and those who are especially lucky also get lunch

I have been in England over Christmas and New Year’s Eve and I was allowed an insight into the English culture of celebration… There was very much to see and there was too much of everything. Too many people, too much food and too many gifts. But it was nevertheless very harmonious with the family.

The time here was just great and all are friendly and try to help wherever they can.

The people here always say sorry for everything and everyone. You can shop here without end and can one easily have luggage problems with the flight back.

And even on the weather, you get used to… And it’s not raining every day here!

The partner school in England search for the host family and the Internship job for us.

I have been working here at Attik Dance in the Office and really enjoyed the time here and I am thankful for everything that I have done and learned. I have met many nice people and have seen much new. The work with people with disabilities was new to me and a super experience.

If I had the chance of this project or a similar to come back again, would I come back without hesitation – Yes.

I want to thank all of Attik dance that they have absorbed me so well and for the beautiful time.

Works Experience Placement – Jenny Crowell

In October 2012 I started my work placement with Attik Dance as part of my third year university project. Every day spent with Attik dance was a pure joy, everyone I met was friendly, enthusiastic and inspirational.

My project was looking at how the arts benefit people with disabilities, and after attending Attik 360 classes, visiting special schools that collaborate with Attik and travelling with Clair Beckett to see a seated dance class for people stroke survivors, it is clear to see Attik dance make a huge difference in showing disabled performers full potential.

I also attended Dance for Fitness a class funded by the British Heart Foundation run by Clair and Sarah. This class was great fun and a brilliant workout! Age and fitness levels were always considered and people were never forced to push themselves harder than they felt comfortable. It would be great to see more classes like this in the future as it is for such a brilliant cause, who wouldn’t want a healthy heart?

Biggest thank you again to everyone at Attik Dance who made my work placement so much fun! Hope to see you all again soon in the future.
